Taxonomy

Taxonomy is classifying all the Earth's organisms. From most general to most specific, organisms are classifyed by

Domain,
Kingdom,
Phylum,
Class,
Order,
Family,
Genus, and
Species.

This can be remembered by the acronym "Do kangaroos play chess or find green socks?"
That's a silly one...can you think of a better?

All organisms are referred to and recognized by their genus and species. Think of it as a first and last name. It allows for less confusion.
